BM401: Fundamentals of Business Administration (5 ECTS credits)

This course offers a summary of the major concepts and tools of business. Coverage of every functional aspect of business is included. Topics covered are management, organization, human resource management, purchasing, production/operations, accounting, finance, marketing, quantitative methods. It provides an overview of managerial functions and responsibilities, leadership practices and business management.

 

BM402: Organizational Behavior (4 ECTS credits)

This course provides future managers and current managers with information about people and their behavior within the context of the business environment. Provides students up-to-date information on current trends in business and issues affecting businesses today. Some areas of focus are: employee support policies, reward systems, procedural justice, high- performance teams, and goal framing effects. It also highlights the global nature of today’s business world.


BM403: Business Law and Ethics (4 ECTS credits)

This course provides a managerial framework for integrating ethics into strategic business decisions. The framework provides an overview of the concepts, processes and best practices associated with successful business ethics programs. Prepares students for the ethical dilemmas they will face in their business careers.

 

DE404: Managing Decision Support (4 ECTS credits)

Presents an integrative analysis and case studies on the process of developing and managing business strategies. Topics include development of corporate goals and objectives, competitive analysis, business model examination, and organizational systems design for plan implementation.


BM405: Marketing Management (4 ECTS credits)

This course introduces basic marketing principles and policies, and explores various marketing functions, emphasizing marketing strategy planning and the integration of marketing with other business activities and functions. Price policies and controls are discussed, as well as the various trade channels, merchandising, market research, government regulations, and competitive practices.

 

BM406: Managerial Economics (4 ECTS credits)

Topics include basic supply and demand theory, marginal analysis, the impact of the market setting (i.e., competitive, oligopolistic or monopolistic structures), and strategic interactions among firms using Game Theory. The main emphasis throughout is on the use of economic reasoning to make informed business decisions.


FIN407: Financial Management (4 ECTS credits)

This introductory course ties financial concepts to reality through the use of real-world examples and simplified concepts. Working capital management and selection of alternative investment opportunities are emphasized, and funds acquisition, dividend policies, optimal debt-equity mix, and budgetary and related procedures are examined as basic tools which provide data used for decision making purposes.

 

BM408: Strategic Human Resources Management (4 ECTS credits)

This course provides information on strategic issues that challenge human resource managers. This course enlarges on the basic knowledge students will have already learned and integrates new challenges for the human resources professional.

 

BM409: Corporate Strategy (4 ECTS credits)

This course covers the theory and practical applications of finance that builds successful companies by developing win-win relationships with suppliers, excelling in customer-relationship management, and providing high-quality services and products at a relatively low cost. It demonstrates the necessary skills to supply enough capital to accomplish these things and to support financial resources through capital generation, asset planning, and asset management.


DE410: Business Modeling and Simulation (4 ECTS credits)

This course focuses on how to turn a great idea into a profitable business by developing a powerful and persuasive business plan. The student learns how to develop the skills and tools needed to communicate the value of their idea to investors and attract key talent. The business plan can also be used as a guide throughout the entire process of starting and operating a business. The student learns the specific skills for determining what to include in the plan, securing capital needed, assessing opportunities and risks, and avoiding common pitfalls that cost money, time, and effort. Students also explore techniques for developing sales, marketing, operations, and distribution strategies.

 

TLC411: Business and Technical Communications (4 ECTS credits)

This course focuses on information; the theory and practice of leveraging and sharing information to develop more effective organizations. It presents the concept of information management within the framework of organizational or corporate information systems used in decision-making processes. Some of the topics covered include: decision making and problem solving situations in information management; information needs and requirements; group decision making processes; organization and representation of information as reflected in a chosen mode of communication and the effect on decision making; and cultural dimensions of information and information management.

 

FIN412: International Finance (3 ECTS credits)

The aim of the course is to facilitate the development of skills to interpret technical and financial management methodologies in foreign and international markets. Examined in this study are the functioning of the foreign exchange market and international markets, the determinants of exchange rates and the basic relationships between interest rates, exchange rates and inflation rates. Foreign exchange hedges, the assessment of investment projects carried out abroad, and the structure of financing of such projects will complete the basic content of the course.


BM413: International Marketing (3 ECTS credits)

This course examines the specific issues involved in entering overseas markets and in conducting international marketing operations, as opposed to entering domestic marketing organizations. Attention is focused on problems such as identifying and evaluating opportunities in overseas markets, developing and adapting marketing strategies in relation to specific national market needs and constraints, and coordinating strategies in world markets.

 

BM414: Supervisory Concepts and Practices (3 ECTS credits)

This course develops supervisory skills that can be used to improve job performance at the manager’s level. It focuses on contemporary issues such as: the changing workplace, management by wandering around, employee decision making and the need for trust, and contrasting views of empowerment and decentralization. It explains the blending of practice, theory, and skills necessary for effective supervision in modern organizational settings.

 

FIN415: Financial Investments & Capital Markets (3 ECTS credits)

The aim of the course is to study financial investments in the context of the formation of efficient portfolios, enabling the student to use different pricing models equities, fixed income and derivative financial assets in the portfolio management. Models to be explored in this study include the Markowitz model, the market model, the CAPM and Arbitrage Pricing Models (APT), with special emphasis on the relationship between risk and return and the basics of portfolio diversification. In addition, different models and methodologies for valuation of financial assets of both equity and fixed income will be examined. The course will include a review of derivative financial assets, financial futures and options in portfolio management.

 

BM416: Management of Banking Enterprises (3 ECTS credits)

The aim of the course is to encourage the students development to manage and analyze the specific problems of banking institutions. This will be achieved by exploring the decision-making process of financial institutions while contemplating their sector specific risks. From this perspective, the role of the banking system will be considered within the financial system along with an analysis of banking products and services for both assets and liabilities and the solvency and regulation of the sector.

 

FIN417: Applied Data Analysis (3 ECTS credits)

This course will be a review of managerial and statistical data techniques used for logistics analysis, hypothesis testing, regression and correlation analysis, forecasting, data mining, and statistical analysis. Emphasis will be on analysis of business and economic data to support managerial decision- making, time series, andforecasting.


BM418: Management of Distribution Channels & eBusiness (3 ECTS credits)

This course intends to provide students with the theoretical and practical content of commercial distribution and e-commerce for different markets. For this purpose it delves into a series of key issues related to the current trend of distribution channels. Initially discussed will be the relationship of marketing to the distribution channel, the analysis of alternatives of cooperation between manufacturer and distributor and the respective characteristics of consumer markets. The second area to be examined is the structure of the distribution channel in service markets and industrial markets. The final section will explore the various issues relating to the impact of the Internet on business relationships in the distribution channel.

 

BM419: Project Management (3 ECTS credits)

This course explores the basic concepts of project management. Special attention is given to the triple constraints composed of project scope planning (definition), project budgeting (costs), and project scheduling (time). Also, the importance of allocating resources, monitoring and evaluating project tasks, risks, leadership skills, and outsourcing projects are investigated by the student. The student also evaluates the use of project management for international ventures and Agile project management concepts and utilization.


The Master's Thesis (15 ECTS credits)

Student will present an acceptable proposal for review and analysis which respects conceptual tools and techniques for conducting scientific research. The candidate will develop and compile an original work demonstrating ability to add to the body of knowledge in his or her field for presentation to and acceptance by the University.

The student’s academic standing at SMBS is indicated by a grade point

average determined by dividing the total number of credit points earned by the

total number of credit hours of the academic program undertaken.

 

GRADING SYSTEM

 

Letter grades are given in all courses at SMBS. Grades are calculated from

the student’s class work, class attendance and participation, assignments,

reports, presentations, mid-semester and final examinations. The professor

selects the grading components for a given course according to the nature of

that course. The letter grading system is as follows:
